Training with a
group? What
do I lose?
Instead of asking what will you lose, ask what you will gain? You
will lose some of the one-on-one aspect you would have
if individually coached, but you will gain most of the benefit
of a structured plan designed to move you and your group forward
toward their event or training goals. You will also
have the trained eye of a certified Level 2 USA
Cycling Coach, to
provide guidance with bike fit issues, group riding dynamics,
nutrition and conditioning advice. Plus the added
benefit of a little friendly competition or at least the camaraderie
among you and your team mates as you work together toward your
shared goal.
As a group, you will also have the opportunity to access several
regional indoor cycling studios as part of your group training
process. This is a great way for folks
new to the sport of cycling to develop a good fitness base
and work on perfecting their pedal stroke mechanics before
hitting the road. For the more experienced cycling group,
indoor cycling provides the opportunity to focus on specific
energy system development protocols and pedal stroke mechanics
without the bother of having the distractions of training
on the road.
We also have access to all Allegheny County Parks as a
way to take our group riding dynamics “on the road” in
the relative safety of demarcated bike lanes. These park
rides can also provide a constant and familiar route for periodically
testing the improving fitness of your group as well as a measured,
regular ride loop for increasing ride distances.
Finally, we will also plan regular road rides to challenge
every cyclist to reach for that next level of fitness working
our way toward mileage and speed figures which will insure
a successful and rewarding result in your planned event.
For those groups who are riding for a charity event, UpOn2Wheels
may have a portion of your training fee returned to that charity. Check
with your charity for details.
